PLANS for the £34 million redevelopment of Keynsham's town centre have been submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council.
The move will give people in the town another chance to put forward their comments before councillors decide whether to give the regeneration scheme their consent. The deadline for comments is April 9.
Hundreds of people have already given their comments as a result of a survey and drop-in sessions organised by the council.
But now that a planning application has been formally submitted, the council is legally obliged to hold another consultation exercise.
Keynsham Town Council will be holding a meeting to discuss the plan on Thursday, March 29 at the Carpenter's Lane meeting room, starting at 7.30pm. Anyone can attend.
Gill Hellier, chairman of Keynsham Town Council, said: "After months of consultation we're pleased that the project is taking another step forward by submitting the planning application.
"I encourage the community to take a look at the proposals and comment on the scheme."
The plans include a new civic building with low-carbon council office space and one-stop-shop for council services, a library, shops, restaurants, and meeting and performance space for community use.
There will also be new streets and spaces for markets and events.
The scheme, which is aimed at breathing life into the town centre, has been put forward by the council which means it will, in effect, be asking itself whether to grant planning permission.
But members of the council's planning committee are bound by law to consider all applications on their merits.
Lib Dem Cabinet Councillor David Bellotti said: "This is a truly dynamic and exciting scheme that will completely transform the town.
"Bath and North East Somerset Council has been listening to local people about what they want to see and many comments are now reflected in the final planning application.
"Subject to planning permission, the council is looking forwards toward delivering this project successfully and improving the heart of the Keynsham community."
Another Lib Dem cabinet councillor, Cherry Beath stressed the economic benefits to the town if the scheme went ahead. She said it would create jobs and greater prosperity.
